Rick has dedicated his life to youth development. He's the first person in the building and the last one to leave and has been for several years. He's single-handedly revamped multiple sports and is open minded to any and all innovations around them. Rick is responsible for over 400 children having access to youth sports on a paid and scholarship basis. He helps raise money to make sure under-privileged children have access to sports to teach life skills. He steps in for any coach that is unable to make a practice or a game and helps make sure they are doing what is right for their team.
As a foster mom, I had a 7 year old with ADHD. Rick took him into basketball and showed him what a team looked like. He introduced the sport to him and helped give him a way to exert his energy and use it in a positive way. This child is now thriving at school thank to this outlet and Rick's guidance. Mine is just one of the many children he's affected.
When I think of the perfect coach, I think of Rick Sandman. We are so blessed to have him, and he would be the perfect honoree for Irish 31!
