Mrs. D’amico is a dynamic, smart, compassionate teacher and my boys and I want to nominate her for STANDOUT TEACHER. As a teacher myself (of middle school students), I was humbled when I started my oldest son in kindergarten six years ago. I learned quickly that the teaching needs of a kindergartener are vastly different than the needs of a middle schooler. Boy, was I lucky to get a mentor and teammate in his kindergarten teacher, Mrs. D’Amico. Whatever she puts her mind to, she tackles with a depth and expertise like nothing I have seen before. I have a M.Ed in reading and Mrs. D’amico’s expertise in the area of reading amazes me. She cultivates the reading process in a way that is both fun and “on point” for exactly what the developing reader needs. Furthermore, she works tirelessly to make the most of the resources she is given.
Mrs. D’amico taught my husband and I about “firm, fair and consistent” and worked so well with us on a great school program called Conscious Discipline. She takes the time to get to know her students and you can tell she sincerely loves each of her students and wants to help them grow not only as scholars but also as thoughtful, caring citizens.
She greeted all three of my boys’ classes (over six years) as if it was her first class. At the end of the school year, I am always amazed at the “school family” she cultivates. The children feel confident and happy in her class and sincerely love learning. We are grateful for Mrs. D'Amico.
