Jay DeDon

Jay is the Director of Bands at Coleman Middle School. This is his third year at the school and fifth year as a teacher. When he arrived, he was the seventh director in ten years. The program was at an identity crisis. In only three years he has turned the program into the largest middle school band in the county earned straight superiors in Concert Music Assessment and Jazz Assessment had twenty students earn a chair in the All-County Band four students make it into the All-State Band (fourth most in the state) as well as have students compete in national flute trumpet and percussion festivals. He is the Social Emotional Learning Champion at his school runs the Chorus Community Team serves on the All-County Committee for the Secondary Musical Council and is the coordinator for the South Tampa Seven Star Honor Band. He regularly travels to volunteer at other schools' band programs and maintains a second job teaching twenty private trumpet students a week. He plays trumpet in the Florida Wind Band and is the Solo Flugelhornist for the Tampa Brass Band. The director of middle school trumpets for the Stetson Brass Camp and the Trumpet Director for the USF Symphonic Celebration. Jay puts his heart into impacting not only students in his own band program but across the state.
