Fredrick Spencer

It is with great pleasure to nominate Mr. Fredrick Spencer for consideration of the 2018 Stand Out
Coaches in the Tampa Bay community award; in recognition of this deserving candidate and his active
volunteer efforts to assist and mentor our youth with ability, consistency and a demonstration of
selflessness.
Coach Spencer is an outstanding professional, mentor and father whose volunteer efforts and influential
leadership helped advance the Girls’ volleyball team at Grace Christian School this year for a record of
37-3 bringing home a conference state championship. Spencer began studying the sport of volleyball to
walk alongside his youngest daughter who found a passion for the sport during her high school career at
Grace. Self-taught drills, workouts with the team, and volunteering to lead additional practices elevated
this team in confidence and skill to reach for the win.
In past, Spencer started his own AAU boys basketball team, The Riverview Hurricanes a top-flight
program consisting of ninth, tenth and eleventh grade students bringing them to national respect with
unique wins on the court placing third in the Nation at the USSSA tournament in North Carolina.
Spencer’s vision of winning did not stop on the court. He planted a different approach to sports through
his anti-bullying efforts by implementing a pilot program to help ensure that each of his athletes were
aware of the consequences of bullying and each pledged to eliminate it from his/her school and
community; in hope that all will continuing building on this momentum to help end bullying and prepare
his players for important lessons in life.
He has served as an extraordinary role model as well as an inspiration to our youth because of the
example set by him. He encourages young individuals to think outside the box and ultimately become
the best version of themselves through team and individualized training on his own time. His integrity is
highly respected.
I offer his nomination for this prestigious recognition.
