What does to be an impactful teacher? Does being a teacher automatically get your name thrown in the bag? I think not! I’ve been lucky enough to have some great teachers. For that, I am thankful. What is an impactful teacher? Is it earning respect and admiration of their students by serving as a role model? Yes! Always having the best interest of their students in mind, is certainly high on the list. An ‘impactful teacher’ goes beyond interacting with students on an instructional level. He or she also works to make sure their physical and emotional needs are met. Mrs. Denyce DiCaprio slips into the outfit of ‘a impactful teacher’ with ease. Inspiring students to think critically, respect the opinions of others, and encourages students to give back to the community. With each new class, she inspires me to leave class better than I entered. She never fails to nurture the emotional needs of her students or acknowledge physical difficulties. She’s never hesitant to pull me aside to ask, “Am I ok?” Maybe, it was because she didn’t know I spent the night at the hospital having scans. Maybe, it’s because I was frustrated having wires and leads attached to a battery pack under my shirt to ensure my heart remains healthy. Mrs. DiCaprio has taught me that words have value and how and when we choose to use those words, shape who we are as individuals. C.S. Lewis said, “The The task of the modern educator is is not to cut down jungles, but to irrigate deserts.” Mrs. DiCaprio irrigates!
