Miss Wheeler is an amazing 1st grade teacher at Veterans Elementary School. She interned at Veterans Elementary School while she attended USF and was offered a teaching position upon Graduation. She was hired as a kindergarten teacher taught for two years. Teaching kindergarten was both challenging and rewarding as the children essentially come into classroom in August as "babies" and leave in May as "students." She experienced everything from "tears" because "they were missing their mommy" to "high fives" because they knew all their sight words and advanced to the next reading level. The transformations were amazing! It was her mission to make learning fun and exciting and it often came at price which personally affected her pocketbook. Supplies crafts for activities snacks field trip drinks (and even some breakfast cereals and crackers for the kids that go without breakfast at home due to low income/financial strain) are purchases that she made without reimbursement. I often talk to her after work while she is shopping at The Dollar Store or Michael's "with a coupon." She is now a 1st grade teacher and Team Lead for the 1st grade teachers. She wants her students and her "teacher team" to have an amazing school year wanting each student to succeed and reach their own potential even if it is at her own expense. The heart of a teacher is immeasurable. My daughter is all heart and could use would appreciate and would likely "share" the $1000 no doubt :-)
